Fans of classic films might be interested in this new exhibition, at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank: Photo Noir – The Art of Cornel Lucas features a selection of portraits by the revered photographer, who died in 2012.
Lucas is the only stills photographer to be awarded a BAFTA for his services to the film industry and in this exhibition there are some stunning examples of his portraiture, featuring film and television stars from the 1940s to the 1980s. Whilst Luise Rainer doesn’t appear, subjects range from homegrown talent eg. Diana Dors, Penelope Wilton, Greta Scacchi to Hollywood stars such as Katharine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall and Marlene Dietrich, as well as those in between (David Niven and Joan Collins, for example).
The exhibition is free and runs until 29th March.
